Revival

Over a year ago, I took a break from this blog. I felt it was necessary to explore the present day Shiny Kid. What are her dreams, ideals, opinions, aesthetics? By distancing myself from the past, I've come to an understanding on how to move forward. I never abandoned my attraction to the glint and gleam of the Universe and I probably never will. However, I have discovered ways to examine existence through many lenses.

Coming out of this year hiatus, I plan to use this blog for my studies, research and musings on various subjects pertaining to my own life and interest. This may have been its purpose in the past, but moving forward I am hoping to penetrate the top layers of life's trivialities and truly understand what it means to be deeply superficial.

French Lone Ranger

My boyfriend surprised me with this brown leather hat a couple of nights ago.
I wore it today, feeling like I should be on a ranch in the French countryside...or something.
I haven't been updating as much for a few reasons:
My computer is slowly dying and I can't do too much with it anymore.
I'm editing all day so when I come home I don't even want to look at a computer screen.
I've been obsessed with Instagram (@shinykid)
Downton Abbey.
Inspirations and thoughts run through my mind so quickly,
I'm not sure if posting my musings is the best (and smartest) move anymore.

I will never abandon my little shiny thing, though.
See you all on the other side...

You can't name birds

Here are a few shots from that roll of film
I fucked up a couple of weeks ago.

Here are a series of portraits I took of Tachi:

Some of these were taken by a man who claimed
to be a photographer at Vogue. However, I don't understand
why he would be at a house party in Greenpoint--
oh, New York.

Live/Work

So it has been almost two months since
I moved into my new apartment.
Here are some photos of what it currently looks like:

I bought a spider fern at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden last week.
My cactus garden is clinging to dear life, sadly.
I'm planning on getting a window box for them
so that in the summer they can get some sun outdoors.

I've recently began painting (again?).
It's been a while since I've painted anything,
but I just love mixing colors...

I finally found the desk of my dreams a couple of weeks ago.
Seriously, I feel so complete and fulfilled now that it's in my life.

This window is right by one of my THREE closets.

Although I am living in a studio apartment,
I feel like it's almost a one bedroom.
Here is the hallway:
A mini polaroid collage on one side
and the photograph of my dream home on the other.

I created a little alteresque area on the molding
above the entrance to the back room.

John bought a juke box a couple of weeks ago.
Now it's sittin' pretty in the front of my apartment.

My boss gave me this wonderful painting
as a housewarming gift.
And yes, those are molds of my boobs.

Just one of the magnificent built-in shelves
that house my library of books, movies and magazines.

Here is the inside of the juke box.
It plays 45s, so we were stoked to add in John's collection.
The people at Junk also gave him all the 45s that were already in there.

I'm really content with my space at the moment.
I've been getting a lot of work done.
Sanity. At. Last.

'I'm not dying, it's just the trip..the DMT'

It's a pain to sit in my chair.

Does anyone else ever wish about being committed to an asylum, or am I alone on this secret desire?
It's strange to think about, but I just envy all the time they have for evaluation of themselves and those around them.
Have interesting thoughts and ideas and just be able to really be yourself, if you are indeed insane.
Or maybe about a week full of utter insanity, not knowing if you'll make it out alive?

I'm haunted by these thoughts and images that creep into my mind at all hours of the day.
It's like I've truly grown into some alien left to live on some fucked up planet.
However, it is a goal of mine to build the most beautiful home one day--
I've been reading Dorothy Rodgers' book The House in my Head
and it's all too inspiring.
