Blog From Prague #1

Procim!

I have been in Prague for five days and I fuckin love it! Sorry I haven't been bloggin, but it's like non-stop running around here. Today I had the first official day of class, and had to make a minute long story that was edited in camera. However, everyone pretty much had like 15 to 20 minutes to shoot since none of us brought our cameras to class....

So, how is Prague? It's really beautiful and the weather is great. Perfect for shorts and a scarf, but they hardly wear shorts here so I feel weird wearing them! I'm still trying to get used to the currency and the time difference. I feel like the days are going by so fast and especially with the documentary projects that we have to do, it seems like I am going to be running around a lot over here.

I have been drinking beer everyday. Prague is the city that has the number one beer consumption in the whole world! Their beers are wonderful as well, not too dark and they are cheaper than the water!! I fell in love with a beer last night at this little pub. I chose it because of the name and it ended up being the best beer I have ever had:

Velvet.

That is Meredith, my roomie who is so kind to lend me her lappy and contact solution! We also went shopping at H&M today, but that's another story....

Gambrinus--another great beer here. In our dorms we have a pub downstairs that stays open late and has a good selection of beer, liquor (including Absinth) and food (if yr into sausage :\ ). This picture is for Mic, who gave me $20 and told me to drink a pint for him. $20 can get you a lot of beer here...

So the first couple of days we were really just getting oriented with the city and such and, of course, I got a whole bunch of touristy shots of landscapes n stuff:

That was the view of the city from the beer garden we went to

We had a scavenger hunt and we had to find stuff around the city, my group was last, but we weren't really worried about it. We got lost on our way to the beer garden.

There were a bunch of skaters at the park where the beer garden is. I think I am going to make them the subject of my next documentary:

There is only cobblestone here, so it would be interesting to see how they deal with that. And they just look like rad kids to chill with.

There are TONS of dogs here! And they are all so well trained that they walk around without leashes. I wish I could pet one, but I feel like I would offend someone since I don't know what "ahhh cute dogggggg" is in Czech.

I have been keepin my eye open for well-dressed Czechs, and I have noticed that many boys here have piercings and rat tails. Girls and women (even old ladies) like to dye their hair this maroon/purple color. There are also a lot of kids who look like a mix between Hot Topic goths n street punks. But I have managed to spot some pretty girls:

Photobucket
I saw this girl at the beer garden and she just looked so pretty and put together! Red n Black :]

Photobucket
I saw this girl while we were crossing a street yesterday and I waited until she turned my way to take the picture because I really wanted to get her hair and scarf. She just looks so effortlessly cute.

Photobucket
I can't imagine wearing heels and walking around these cobblestone streets, but this lady (I was only fortunate enough to get a shot of her shoes because the bridge was PACKED) did it sooo well.

Photobucket
Her hair is a little brighter than what most girls here have it, but she also looks so put together and chic with her heels and the purple against her hair...

More street style shots to come!

So last night we had our official welcome dinner at this really rad restaurant. I drank 2 mugs of Pilsner (one of the worlds best beers here as mentioned in this month's Nylon) and tried some Czech appetizers which were kinda salty, but overall delicious and had salmon n potatoes for dindin. Food is really heavy here, but if you don't eat too much, you'll feel fine. I love the fact that I can drink beer so openly here. I bought a can of beer along with my sandwich at Tesco (like a Target/Wal Mart kinda store) and sat in this really nice courtyard and drank and ate.

There are fountains everywhere that have drinkable water! You can drink water from the faucet and it's good and cheap!

That building was designed after Fred and Ginger. They look like apartments inside. I think I learned about this at IB...

So last night was suuuuper fun! Before I flew over here I was researching Prague on MySpace seeing if I could find any cool kids or clubs that had my taste in music. I read about Roxy and we found out that Monday nights are free so we went to check it out:

We have to fold out our maps everywhere because it's such a huge city and duh we don't know our way around. Our bartender at the pub where I tried Velvet ended up being from the States (Wyoming) and told us how to get to Roxy from there. So we paid and took off:

We finally got there and I bought a beer and I danced so hardd because the music was fucking rad! It's such a big club and there were so many people. It felt weird not being able to chill behind the DJ booth like it usually is at our shows and parties, but it was great finally dancing to some rad tracks.

By the end of the night, many of us were super faded, but luckily we had responsible kids callin cabs n lookin at maps trying to get us back home haha

Well, I am sure I am leaving out so much more, but I have to write some emails since I have been putting off buying phone cards since I want to spend most of my money on clothes. I miss my friends a lot, and I still can't believe I am so far away from home, but I am lovin this city and I feel like this trip is going to be over before I know it....

XOXOXOXO
